Okapi

Scientific name: Okapia johnstoni 

Distribution: Ocapis are only found in the forests of northeastern Congo, at altitudes between 500 and 1000 meters. Occasionally, they can climb to higher altitudes, but return only after a short time. 

Feeding: These animals feed on leaves and berries from some trees or shrubs, and also from the many types of undergrowth that tropical forests provide. Conservation status Endangered. There are an estimated 5,000 animals living in freedom and more than a hundred in captivity. 

Gestation and sexual maturity: The gestation time of this species is about 440 days, after which only one baby is born. Sexual maturity is reached by about 3/4 years.

Size: The ocapis can reach a length of 2.5 meters, a height of 1.7 meters and weigh 300kg. 

Longevity: Ocapis can reach 30 years in captivity. In freedom, his life expectancy will be around 20 years.
