Green iguana

Origin: Central and North America South.

Size: 1.5 to 1.8 m in captivity. In nature they reach 2 m.

Habits: diurnal and arboreal. He lives in the canopy of trees near the waterways.

Terrarium: spacious (4 x 2 x 1.5 m) for an adult animal with rocks and logs. Humidity of 60 to 80% and temperature between 27 and 36 ºC. 

Reproduction: ovípara, with posture of many eggs. 

Handling: accepted well since accustomed since puppies.
The Iguana is perhaps one of the highest expression reptiles in captivity, alongside the turtles. The body is strong, compressed laterally, being 2/3 corresponding to the length of the tail. The limbs are well developed and strong, with long fingers. It has a large rounded scale below the tympanum, a skin fold in the gular region (neck) and a crest at the top of the head, more developed characteristics in males. The coloration in the youngsters is intense green and with the passage of the years they appear dark bands along the body and the tail. 

Feeding: Puppies and youngsters feed preferentially on insects, and may also be given alcon ReptoLife. Adults, on the other hand, become almost exclusively vegetarian and accept captive vegetables and fruits, as well as hibiscus, Ipê, apple tree and rose petals. For a practical and varied diet one must provide Alcon Club Reptiles Vegetables and Fruits , composed of a large variety of dehydrated vegetables. It is very important to provide vitamin supplementation in food, with use of Labcon Reptovit 2 to 3 times per week

Captivity: The terrarium should be broad and contain trunks and branches in abundance. It is important that there is a large tub of water inside the terrarium to assist in the levels of humidity, to drink and even to the bath, if she wishes. You need to exercise so you do not get obese. Likewise, you need to be exposed to artificial or solar ultraviolet rays so that you can develop well and healthy.
