The Otter, whose existence has been threatened by intensive hunting, is now protected in many regions. His thick shiny coat is brown, black or gray, and sometimes a combination of the three. It has a high forehead and a snout more pronounced than other species, such as the California seal. With a long muscular neck, the sucker has a short tail and elongated feet that serve as oar. Several hundred thousand of these seals live off the coasts of Africa, New Zealand, Australia and the Galapagos Islands.

They are not migratory, but undertake long journeys of up to 1300 km in search of food.
In the Pinnipedia order (which includes seals and walruses), only the sucker shows hair change, which occurs in late summer. In November, at the time of mating, suckers meet in large groups. Five or ten females form a harem. After an eleven-month gestation, the offspring are born, usually one single per litter. They weigh about 7 kg. His woolly coat falls after four months to be replaced by a coat of olive and white color; with a year, that coat is cizento-dourada. For 10 months, the puppies are fed weekly.
